A Master Plumber is a person who assumes responsible charge, supervision, or direction of Journeyman Plumbers, Plumber’s Apprentices and other persons in the construction, installation, or alteration of plumbing or who engages in, offers to engage in, or advertises or otherwise represents that he is permitted and qualified to engage in the design, planning, superintending, contracting for, or responsible charge of plumbing.

Must have at least two years of experience as a licensed journeyman plumber within the last five years, pass a designated master plumber exam with at least 80%, submit an application with a photo, and pay fees; alternatively, you can have two years of experience with a valid license from another state. This top-tier license allows you to pull permits and supervise work, requiring ongoing education for renewal. 

The first step in the licensing process is to submit a completed application to the state licensing board. Exam fee of $150.00 for a Master Plumber exam.

The state of Kentucky has no formal reciprocity agreements for this license. If out-of-state applicants hold a license in another state, the experience requirements will be waved but the Kentucky exam must still be taken.
A licensee or certificate holder shall provide proof of at least six (6) hours of approved continuing education prior to license renewal.
Applications must be received 3 weeks prior to exam scheduling.  Reglar exams are conducted in February, May, August, and November of each year.
American Contractors does not currently offer a seminar for the Kentucky Master or Journeyman Plumber exams, but we do offer many Plumbing seminars that will aid in preparation of any Plumbing exam.
